The first level of anxiety in the chart is 0, which is what an absolutely healthy person wakes up with, happy and content. They don’t have much to worry about.
These people may sometimes go up to a level two, three or four, which is natural. Life comes with a number of complications. But the point to keep in mind is that for normal people who do not have anxiety in the form of a mental illness, these days will soon, at some point or the other be followed by days of 0 anxiety, as they work through their anxiety inducers.
In the case of people with anxiety, however, the picture is not so pretty.
Their day starts on level 3 or 4, and as they go about their day, little things keep adding to the already disturbed state of mind that they began their day with. It soon gets to a point where it is an absolute frenzy and they are running around or have completely buried themselves under blankets because they cannot function.
The next stage is a full anxiety attack, which happens when the body physically cannot deal with the pressure anymore and goes into a full shut-down mode.
In conclusion, we can say that anxiety is not about breathing and calming down. It is a legitimate mental illness that someone cannot easily control. They are not doing this to themselves and they certainly are not asking for attention. It is an illness that needs treatment and often medication.
